Personnel of the Accra Regional Police Command have shot and killed two suspected armed robbers who went on a robbery escapade at the Obetsebi-Lamptey Circle on the Graphic Road in Accra late Sunday night. Seven others were also arrested for robbery offences. The two suspected armed robbers, believed to be between the ages of 25 and 26 and yet-to-be-identified, were in the company of a third person who escaped arrest. The robbers were alleged to have attacked their victims around 11.00pm on Sunday night and robbed them of their monies and personal belongings. Items retrieved from them included two locally-made pistols, two used cartridges, five live cartridges, and two sharp knives. A handbag containing items such as five mobile phones and wristwatches, belonging to their victims, were also retrieved. Briefing journalists yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, together with her deputy, ACP C.T. Yohuno, indicated that a police patrol team from the Accra Regional Police headquarters received a distress call that armed robbers had attacked two victims at Obestebi-Lamptey Circle on the Graphic Road. On reaching the scene, the robbers engaged the policemen in a fierce gun battle; and in the process, two of the robbers were killed.However, the third suspected robber managed to escape. DCOP Bio Atinga noted that efforts were being made to track down the escapee robber. In a related development, two other suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for snatching eight taxi cabs within the Accra metropolis. The suspects were Michael Boateng, 28, and Kojo Enoch, 25, both unemployed. Four of the vehicles had been retrieved so far. DCOP Bio Atinga indicated that the command, upon receiving information on August 10, 2011 about the nefarious activities of the two, dispatched a team of police officers in plain clothes to clamp down on these miscreants. By dint of hard work, suspect Boateng Michael was arrested at SCC, Weija, on the Accra-Kasoa road. The same day, the team proceeded to Akim Oda in the Eastern Region and smoked out Kojo Enoch from his hideout. Upon interrogation, the suspects disclosed to police that in the month of June, they snatched a total of eight vehicles from their rightful owners. The suspects assisted police to retrieve four vehicles, including a Nissan Almera unregistered taxi cab, a Kia Sephia unregistered taxi cab, a Kia Rio taxi with registration number AS 20190-11 and another Kia Rio taxi with registration number GE 5098-11. DCOP Rose Bio Atinga said efforts were being made to retrieve the other four vehicles.She said the suspects would be arraigned before court soon. Earlier, the police also arrested two men who were offering a stolen car for sale. They were Kwesi Badu, a driver, 31, and Mohammed Mubarak, 24. They were said to have snatched a Rover taxi from its owner and offered it for sale at Ashaiman. The taxi cab with registration number GT 8827-Z was sold at GH�1,000. According to DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, plain-clothed policemen were dispatched to Ashaiman to mount a surveillance on the two. The policemen feigned interest in purchasing the said vehicle. The suspects then revealed the location of the vehicle to the �buyers� at Sege near Ada. She said suspects then gave the ignition key and the car tape to the policemen to go and pick it with the promised that they would both meet at the same spot for payment. The car was retrieved at Sege, and on August 16, 2011, the team went to the agreed payment spot and arrested the suspects.
