Asamoah Gyan To Launch Charity Project

Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has announced he will launch his Foundation early next year to help communities in Ghana. The sporting and musical icon will oversee the Foundation in conjunction with his elder brother Baffour, an ex-international. The Asamoah Gyan Foundation will seek to provide fresh water supply for many outlying villages and promote greater access to education for girls. Gyan said: Sometimes, they marry at a young age and find themselves tied to the marital home, without access to education. They need to be helped to gain that access, he said. Theres a saying: a man can do, but a woman can do better. We want to help them reach their full potential. As for the water situation, I grew up in the city so I didnt come across these issues as such, but its something that hits the rural areas more. Ive seen the problems and I want to help the villages to try and tackle the problems they face. I have a passion to give something back to society, thats my motivation. The 24-year-old wants to emulate compatriots Michael Essien and Stephen Appiah who have successful charity projects in Ghana.
