The editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Ken Kuranchie has called for the immediate dismissal of the Head of the Narcotics Control Board, Mr Akrasi Sarpong for supervising an organization of drug accomplices. Mr Ken Kuranchie�s call comes on the back of recent reports that some 15 officials of NACOB, National Security and BNI operatives have been arrested over drug-related offences within the last couple of weeks at the Kotoka International Airport. Ten of the NACOB officers appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Friday August 26 where they were remanded in police custody to reappear on September 9, 2011. The court presided over by Eric Kyei Baffuor charged the suspects with abetment of importation of narcotic drug contrary to Narcotic Drugs Control Sanctions but they all pleaded not guilty to the offence. The accused included Fatima Abdulai who, during her arrest and interrogation, revealed the activities of her colleagues in aiding suspected drug barons to export and import narcotic drugs over the years. The rest are Dennis Adutwum Gyimah, Yakubu Issaka, Timothy Aboloimpo, Peter Asong, Mutawakilu Yahaya Iddi, Jerry John Kwesi Abbiw, Eric Darko Akuffo, Nana Zamsah Evrah and Abubakari Nallah, popularly called Abu Sondoko, owner and bankroller of Tudu Mighty Jets Football Club. Speaking on Citi FM�s Saturday political talk Show the �Big Issue�, Ken Kuranchie called on President Mills to dismiss Mr Akrasi Sarpong who in his capacity as NACOB boss has failed to identify accomplices of drug barons within his own administration. �The first thing that we should call for is the dismissal of Mr Akrasi Sarpong, when he came on radio and said that he was chasing NACOB money in politics, NACOB was ruling in his own organisation and he had absolutely no control over it...he should be fired�. Mr Akrasi Sarpong has in recent times come under fire from the opposition NPP for his failure to provide evidence to substantiate his claims that some political parties and politicians are heavily funded by drug barons. Mr Akrasi Sarpong threatened to deal ruthlessly with any politician caught to be using proceeds from the illicit trade notwithstanding the party he or she belongs to but failed to mentions names to back his claims.
