A MAN lost his arm yesterday after it was crushed in the doors of a moving train. The 21-year-old victim is believed to have been boarding when he slipped on to the track as the door slammed shut on the limb.
The train moved off from the platform at Perth Station dragging him with it before the shocked driver spotted him and stopped.
A specialist trauma team battled to save the man's arm before he was rushed to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. He had emergency surgery but medics were unable to save the limb and it was amputated.
The man, from Buckie, Aberdeenshire, who is understood to have been travelling with pals, is now said to be "serious but stable". The horror accident happened around 11pm on Sunday on the 9.45pm Glasgow-Aberdeen service.
Police said an investigation had been launched and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.A ScotRail spokesman said: "We are cooperating fully in the investigation into this tragic incident."
On Saturday the body of a 40-year-old man was found around 7am on the same line near Arbroath. It is thought the man had been knocked down before the train driver spotted him. The track was closed for more than three hours.
The family of the victim have been informed.
