NPP Flagbearer Criticised For His Free Education Policy

The President of Ashesi University, Dr Patrick Awuah has criticised the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo's policy of free Junior and Senior High Schools. The NPP flagbearer has on several platforms promised free education at the JHS and SHS levels if elected. But Dr Awuah said the idea is not well thought through. According to D. Awuah, wealthy families should be made to bear the full cost of the wards education while that of poor families can be subsidized by the government. Speaking at panel discussion on "Can We Afford Quality Education in Ghana", Dr Awuah said free education for Junior and Senior High Schools means redistribution of wealth to favour the rich. Meanwhile, Government says comments by NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo, that Ghana is borrowing too much is neither here no there. A member of the government's communication team, Stan Dogbe, told Radio Ghana that the NPP have no clear cut policies to solve the problems bedeviling Ghanaians hence their rhetoric�s on the way the NDC government is managing the economy. Special Aide to Nana Addo, Abu Jinapor however reaffirmed the NPP's stance that the government is over borrowing and could revert the country to HIPC.
