Volta Lures More Investors

A delegation consisting of entrepreneurs and chiefs will embark on an investment tour to sell the economic potentials of the Volta region to financiers in Europe. The delegation would woo businessmen and women to participate in the next Volta Trade and Investment fair scheduled for November, this year. The fair, which is in its third year, has attracted participants from various African countries, Turkey and Iran. This years promotional tour is under the auspices of the Awoamefia of Anlo Traditional Area, Togbi Sri III, who appealed to the Founder and President of Volta Foundation, Dumega Raymond Okudzeto to organize the tour as he had done in the previous years. According to, the appeal by the British Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Peter Jones during a recent visit to Anloga in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region to the chiefs and people to unite and revive the economic link between Great Britain and the Volta region, encouraged him and the elders to take steps to bring investors to the area. The Awoamefia stressed the importance of the tour in encouraging investors to collaborate with entrepreneurs in the Volta region to develop the vast economic resources of the region, which include crude oil, diamond, gold, iron ore, salt, uranium, among others. The area has fertile lands from the north to the south and numerous water bodies for aquaculture. Last year, the Volta Foundation president was in China to woo investors which resulted in commencement of new sugar cane and rice projects and a delegation, led by Togbe Samlafo III, a chief from Woe and other investment experts travelled to Denmark, France and Italy. Another delegation, led by Kofi Asante, a member of the Volta Foundation also toured Spain and Italy to encourage investors to develop the vast tourism attractions in the Volta region. The tours were sponsored by the Volta Foundation. On his part, Dumega Okudzeto noted that the Volta region is in the best position to get investors to the region since the economic crunch in the developed world had made would-be investors to be cautious about where they invest. He strongly believes the Volta region is the best place to invest for good return. He further stated that Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) has put measures in place to ensure that investors are treated fairly and that their investments are protected. Dumega is embarking on yet another trip to Spain to meet potential investors, who have already expressed interest in participating in some of the projects in Ghana. Other countries to be visited include Portugal and Greece which have developed their tourist sites.
