CPP National Delegates Congress...Counting Underway

Counting is underway as delegates wait to see who emerges as winner to lead the Convention Peoples Party. National Delegates of the CPP have all cast their vote for their favourite candidate at the on-going congress at the International Trade Fair Center in Accra. Altogether, over 20 candidates are vying for the various positions of the party. Over 2,000 delegates have arrived from across the country to take part in the congress. The Incumbent Chairman, Ladi Nylander, former Chairman Edmund Delle, Jomoro MP, Samia Nkrumah and Araba Bentsi-Entsil have all eyed the chairmanship slot and will contest for the key position. Party General Secretary Ivor Greenstreet in an interview with Citi News said all is set for the crucial contest. He added that the CPP is ready to elect credible and strong leaders to steer the affairs of the party. Ahead of the congress a senior member of the party, F.A Jantuah has lashed out at the current leadership labeling them as incompetent and total failures. He has admonished delegates of the party to kick out Ladi Nylander and his team and vote the partys only Member of Parliament Samia Yaba Nkrumah as the Chairman of the party. The General Secretary position of the CPP is being hotly contested by Ivor Greenstreet, Nii Armah Akomfrah and Ekow Duncan. The position of National Treasurer position is a straight fight between Kosi Dede and Seth Gomnah. Evelyn Alamisi Anabilla, Appiah Amankwah and Abu Forgor are slugging it out for national organizer, while Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim-Haruna, Mary Ankumah Boakye-Boateng and Aisha Suley Futa will battle for the national womens organizer position. The National Youth Organizer position will be vied for by Murtala Mohammed, Francis Opai Tetteh and Issifu Kadiri Abdul Rauf. It will be the first time in the history of the CPP that it is heading for an early congress to elect its national officers to enable the party to elect its flagbearer as soon as possible. The last time an Nkrumahist party won a general election was in 1979, under the Third Republican Constitution, when Dr Hilla Limann won on the ticket of the Peoples National Party (PNP), with the support of the CPPs organizational machinery.
