Castle Boy Bodyguards Beat NDC Woman

The Adabraka Police in Accra is said to be under political pressure over an alleged assault on Mavis Manorgbor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) womens organiser for Odododiodioo constituency. Mavis was said to have made a report of assault by goons suspected to the bodyguards of presidential aide, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, to the police station. Madam Manorgbor, who reportedly received a string of punches from Lateef Osman and Emmanuel Botwe, pistol-wielding bodyguards of Nii Lante Vanderpuye, lodged a formal complaint at the Adabraka Police Station on Monday evening. Although the NDC womens organiser confirmed this to Daily Guide on telephone and said the police told her they would initiate investigations into the matter, the Adabraka Police command denied receiving such a complaint. When Daily Guide contacted the District Police Commander, Supt. Cephas Coffie, he retorted, If the incident happened at Odododiodioo, why are you coming to Adabraka Police Station? Supt. Coffie quizzed, directing the paper to go to James Town Police station. When Daily Guide told him the alleged victim had already confirmed reporting the incident to Adabraka Police, he remarked, Then talk to my crime officers. Accordingly, Daily Guide contacted the crime officer, ASP Nketia, but he also denied his station had received such a complaint. However, Cpl Teku told Joy FM that the NDC womens organizer did report the assault case at the police station and was given a medical form to go to hospital. The alleged victim had also declined to make further comment on the case when prodded, even though she had earlier stated that party leaders had turned deaf ears to the case. She told Joy FM that the two people started insulting, calling her Ashawo (prostitute), when she made an appearance at the Accra Mayors residence. According to her, she responded by calling them Ashawo which angered the bodyguards, leading to the attack on her. I will not want to make any comment on the matter for now, she said. The NDC womens organiser was allegedly assaulted by Nii Lantes bodyguards on her way to a meeting at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly chief executives residence at Adabraka on Monday evening when the two suspected hoodlums attacked her, prompting her to take the matter to the Adabraka Police station. She said she had received a message on her phone that the NDC caucus at AMA was meeting at the Mayors where she responded promptly only to be beaten by Nii Lanteys boys. The victim had earlier alleged that she had been slapped by a security detail called Okoe, assigned to presidential aide Nii Lante, after a misunderstanding at a party meeting at the constituency. She claimed two government officials turned up at the meeting with scores of security personnel, raising tension in the constituency. But the presidential aide claimed he had no security guard by name Okoe, saying his bodyguard was a Muslim and could not bear the name Okoe. By Awudu Mahama
