Arrest Of Stupid Minister Cops Unprofessional Obiri Boahene

A former minister of state at the Interior Ministry, Nana Obiri Boahene, has criticised the Ghana Police Service for arresting and detaining eight police officers alleged to have insulted deputy Interior Minister, Kobby Acheampong. Obiri Boahene described the action by the Police Service as unprofessional and a dangerous precedent that could affect the operations of some officers within the service. The deputy minister for interior is reported to have said that some policemen, checking road traffic offences insulted him after he had confronted them of mounting a road check at the wrong side of the road. Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Obiri Boahene, however, noted that the decision to detain the police officers without fully conducting investigations into the allegations could cause disaffection among some members of the Police Service. He said detaining police officers who were only executing their duties because the complaint was lodged by a deputy minister is unfair and totally unprofessional. He called on the Inspector General of Police to properly look into the matter to ascertain the truth. According to the police officers, the deputy minister was driving above the required speed limits and was only directed to pull over. The eight cops were later on arrested, transported to the Police headquarters in Accra and charged with misconduct, but were on Tuesday released to return to work pending investigations. The police administration has been silent on the kind of punishment the officers could face, but has promised to appropriately sanction them if found culpable of the charges brought against them.
