'My Dear Doctors'...Please 'Exercise Restraint' - Prez Mills Begs GMA To Call Off Strike

President John Evans Atta-Mills has made a passionate plea to striking doctors to call off their industrial action and to return to the health centres to save lives. According to president Atta-Mills, the government is willing to sit down with them and iron out all differences over their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure. The doctors are aggrieved that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has failed to correct certain distortion with the grading system. Addressing a durbar held in his honour at Dodowa during his tour of the Greater Accra region, the president said doctors play a very essential role in the health sector and must call off their strike whilst negotiations go on to ensure that they are successfully migrated onto the new salary structure. My dear doctors, the people whose condition worsen because you have withdrawn your services can never come back, president Atta-Mills said passionately. They can never retrace their steps. .. If you are interested in the welfare of this country you should be able to exercise restraint. We dont have to do anything that would destroy what has taken us years to build. It has been four days since the doctors declared a nationwide strike action and they have refused to heed to calls to return to the theatre. The Health Services Workers Union of the Ghana Trade Union Congress on Tuesday expressed its anger following the strike action at the various public health institutions called at the behest of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).
