Fulani Given 10-day Ultimatum To Quit Agogo Lands

The youth of Agogo in the Asante-Akim North Municipality have given Fulani herdsmen in the area 10 days to re-locate with their animals or face forceful eviction. They threatened massive collision with the herdsmen after Saturday, October 22. They said they had run out of patience and options following the failure by both Government and the Traditional Council to act decisively to end years of atrocities by the Fulani. Mr Pesse Danquah, Vice Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Agogo, said they would do everything to protect themselves and their farms. The ultimatum comes amidst rising tension and outrage over the lawlessness of the herdsmen, who are said to have imposed a virtual reign of terror, brutalizing, robbing, maiming and killing people, wrecking farms and water bodies. Mr Danquah said they could no longer live with their atrocities and would declare war on them should they miss the deadline. The youth had already imposed a ban on funerals in Agogo until the herdsmen are kicked out. He said they found it quite amazing the inaction of the government that was emboldening them to attack and destroy their farms with impunity. Mr Danquah called on the Traditional Council and the Municipal Assembly to make sure that the herdsmen, leave immediately in the interest of peace.
