President Mills Confident Crisis In Libya Will Soon End

President John Evans Atta Mills has expressed strong hope that the crisis in Libya would soon end. He indicated that Ghana would maintain its ties with Libya as a very important country, and was ready to work alongside the country, and move ahead with who would become the leader of the north African nation. The President also said Ghana was also following developments in Libya with keen interest, and expected that the challenges the country was going through would soon be over. President Mills gave the assurance when the outgoing Libyan Ambassador to Ghana, Dr Ali Ahmed Al-Ghaban, paid a farewell courtesy called on him at the Osu Castle in Accra on Friday. "In spite of who becomes the next President of Libya, Ghana will continue to maintain the existing warm relations with Libya," President Mills said. He recalled the cordial relations between the two nations and added that there was the need to maintain those relations in the mutual interest and benefit of their people. The outgoing Libyan Ambassador Dr. Al-Ghaban expressed his happiness with the level of developments that had taken place in Ghana in the last three years. He said he was carrying with him fond memories of the Ghanaian hospitality extended to him by the Government and the people of Ghana. Also at Castle to bid farewell to President Mills was the outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Ruchi Ghanashyam. Dr Ghanashyam was thankful to the Government and the people of Ghana for the co-operation she enjoyed during her duty tour. President Mills recalled the long standing relations between Ghana and India dating to the era of Ghana's first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Nehru. He underlined that Ghana and India had to learn from each other since Accra and New Delhi had a lot in common. Meanwhile, an envoy of the South African President Jacob Zuma, Mrs Maite Nkoana Mashabane, has delivered a special message from President Zuma to President Mills.
