3 Hang To Death

Two persons have reportedly committed suicide in Tema and the Atwima Kwanwoma district in the Ashanti Region early this week, as a Prison officer has also allegedly hanged himself. One of the alleged suicides took place opposite the Community 2 Police Station in Tema and it involved 36-year-old William Ofori Otoo, an employee of the Tema office of Vodafone Ghana. He hailed from Agona Nyakrom in Central Region. He used a skipping rope to hang himself. Chief Inspector Olivia Turkson, Tema Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the incident, told DAILY GUIDE that police had information from a certain Margaret Asumani, who claimed she was a landlady to the deceased that morning. A team of policemen was dispatched to the scene and spotted William hanging in his room with the skipping rope tied to his ceiling fan. Police have, meanwhile, launched a preliminary investigation into the case to ascertain what actually led to his death. So far, the information gathered does not establish what led him to commit suicide by hanging, since he has no problem, it is not yet known to us and the family, she said. According to her, the body had since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra pending autopsy while investigation was underway. The other suicide took place in Atwima Koforidua in the Atwima Kwanwoma district where a certain Yaw Agyare, 41, had allegedly ended his life in an uncompleted house in the area. The deceased was said to be a native of Krobo Abease in the Brong Ahafo region and lived in the community for two-and-a-half years. He was believed to have left behind two children. A resident of the community, who pleaded anonymity, said the lifeless body of Agyare was found hanging in the room at about 5:30am, wearing yellow boxer shorts. After seeing the horrendous spectacle, a distress call was made by the source, which attracted scores of people to the scene but no one could determine how he committed the abominable act. But some members of the Agyare family did not rule out foul play as his father, Jonas Bob Bobie, described his son as a gregarious person. He was someone who was loved by all and sundry. It, therefore, baffles me how Agyare could do such a dastardly act to himself, the sobbing father retorted. However, a close source said, some months ago, the deceased complained to his confidant how unhappy he was because he had been asked to vacate the room he was occupying. When Daily Guide went to the scene, the red cloth used by the deceased to hang him was loosely hanging. I suspect Agyare did not commit suicide, someone might have killed and hanged him, a resident alleged. When Daily Guide spoke to the driver the deceased was working with, he expressed disbelief, noting that he only parted with the deceased at 9:30pm the previous day. I am shocked how my mate would harm himself like this, he said, stating that the deceased was in a good mood when he was going to sleep. Meanwhile, the body was taken by the Abuakwa police at 12 pm and has since been deposited at the NkawieToase Hospital Mortuary
