Nobody Can Ask Me To Resign - Dr. Emmanuel Adom Winful

The President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) Dr. Emmanuel Adom Winful has dismissed calls for his resignation over some comments he made, which sought to downplay the severity of the loss of lives as doctors continue to stay out of their various hospitals. Dr. Winful has been condemned for his comments by many including some human rights organisations who are calling for his resignation. However, speaking to Citi News, Dr. Winful described such calls as unwarranted, saying his comments were misconstrued. According to him, the GMA has consistently tried to be fair in its dealings and cannot be blamed for the current crisis. I dont think any of them put me where I am, Dr. Winful said. Those people who elected me have the right to decide whether I should stay there or not. I dont owe my position to their whims and caprices. I am the President of the Ghana Medical Association and the association has the right to decide whether I stay or not. The comments have been taken completely out of context, we have not taken any intransigent position, we have all sat down and prepared the re-evaluation scores and I dont see why they should use something else to determine grading, he added. Meanwhile, a newly formed pressure group in Kumasi has also called on Ghana President Evans Atta Mills to relieve the health minister of his post with immediate effect because he has been incompetent in handling the doctors issue.
