Shake-Up In FONKAR

After three hours of closed door meeting yesterday, members of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) came out with a list of names who are likely to assume leadership positions in the group. Conspicuously missing on the list was the name of Dela Coffie, its former Communications Director. Sources close to the group told Daily Guide that its vociferous and controversial Operations Director, Ernest Owusu-Bempah, is now set to take over from Dela Coffie as Communications Director, with Ruth Dela Sedoh and Joseph Bediako as his Deputy and Assistant respectively whilst Saint Osei is likely to assume the role of a National Coordinator of FONKAR. According to the source, the decision to axe Dela Coffie from the leadership of the group was informed by the fact that he was now considered a mole among them since they believed he had been compromised. All things being equal, die-hard Rawlings supporter and leader of the Youth for Leadership in Ghana (YFL), SaCut Amenga-Etego, whose tough-talking nature has earned him the nickname Commandant and The General, is expected to become FONKARs General Secretary whilst former Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Ernest Brogya Gyenfi, is expected to become the groups Director of Research and International Affairs whilst young and affable Ransford Vaani-Amoah would maintain his position as Founder and President of FONKAR. Firebrand Ashanti Regional Chairman of the group, Abdul-Rashid Alhassan, is also expected to become its Coordinator for the Zongo communities. No explanations have been given to the reorganisation of the group which the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said had been axed after the partys Sunyani congress. Other names that have been bandied around include Clement Mawuli Guddah, Deputy Director of Operations, Charles Opoku, National Organiser, Ibrahim Hardi, Deputy National Organiser, Emelia Sam, Deputy National Womens Organiser and Nii Osah Dagadu as National Students Coordinator. The rest include Jerry Ohene, Deputy Students and Millicent Acquah, Deputy National Students Coordinator. According to sources, what was now left was for former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and the council of elders to give their blessings in the coming days for the decision to be made public.
