General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, is laying blame at the doorstep of the United Nations (UN) for all the atrocities that occurred in the North Africa country of Libya.
He accuses the UN of using the ruse of Interventions with the intention of protecting civilians from Qaddafi�s atrocities only to incite the Libyans and orchestrate a regime change. To him, in spite of Qaddafi�s acclaimed brutalization and maltreatment of his people, the world body erred in how it went about the whole operation.
Libya's Col Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi was toppled from power in August after 42 years in charge of the country. He was making his last stand in his birthplace of Sirte alongside two of his sons, Mutassim and Saif al-Islam but was killed in crossfire after being captured. He was shot in the head in an exchange between Qathafi loyalists and National Transitional Council fighters.
Contributing to discussions on Peace FM�s Kokrokoo Morning Show on what next after the demise of the Libyan leader, the PNC Chief Scribe also hit hard at the African Union expressing his disappointment in the august body for its loud silence whiles the UN dictated how African countries should be governed.
�Qathafi had many shortfalls but this is certainly not the way to treat people who have served us. They may be brutal but what has happened to Qathafi is absolutely unacceptable. The UN must continuously be blamed for the kind of things that happened in Libya. Look at the atrocities George Bush caused, what Tony Blair did. So is Cameron and Sarkozy going to be tried in any Court of International Criminal Justice? It will never happen! It is always Africans that they are always looking out for to prosecute,� he noted.
He described NATO�s operations in Libya as a manifestation of the hypocrisy of the UN, adding that the interference of the international world in Libyan affairs was for their peculiar interest.
�Qathafi�s overthrow was not the will of the Libyan people, if you look at what happened in Tunisia, it was the will of the people, they rose up against him, they did not wait for foreign intervention. If NATO had not decided to do what they did, the bloodshed that characterized Libya wouldn�t have happened. They said UN resolutions to protect civilians but at the end of the day you are orchestrating a regime change. The UN resolution did not say they should bring a regime change but try to protect civilians against the atrocities of Gaddafi but all they have gone to do is cause a regime change,� he said.
He lamented that the very person the former Libyan leader helped financially during his campaign, French President, Sarkozy, stabbed him in the back by leading the campaign that eventually ousted him (Qathafi) from power.
