Used Condom In Ayoyo Soup

Residents of Salamba, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region, are yet to come to terms with how a used condom found its way into a vegetable soup popularly called ayoyo soup. The incident, which occurred in one of the respectable homes in the area, shocked residents as many wondered how such a thing could occur in a religious home. Sources told DAILY GUIDE that the youth of the area usually relaxed under sheds in the afternoon to consume their meals together. On the said day, the wife of one of them (name withheld) prepared tuo zaafi (TZ) and the ayoyo soup and served her husband and his pals. After consuming the food initially prepared by wives of the others in the afternoon, they decided to wait for a while before eating the TZ. Hours later, the hungry young men decided to consume their TZ with the ayoyo soup, but no sooner had they started than one of them pulled out a used condom from the green vegetable soup. Most of them vomited and accused the young man of conspiring with his wife to poison them. The man, who could not stand the embarrassment, dashed to the house and subjected his wife to severe beatings. The couple shouted loudly while quarrelling and this attracted the attention of some residents who came to the scene. The concerned residents saved the poor woman from being lynched by relations of the man who accused her of trying to bewitch him. DAILY GUIDE gathered that the woman had since vacated her matrimonial home for her own safety, while efforts by some religious leaders were underway to address the issue. Husband of the accused, who declined to comment further on the matter, said it is not a matter for the press. All attempts to talk to the worried woman and her relations proved futile as they resolved to keep mute and resort to mediation to enable the woman return to her matrimonial home.
