PNCs Bernard Mornah Thrown Out Of Parliament

The Peoples National Convention (PNC) General Secretary, Bernard Mornah, on Wednesday morning suffered what an onlooker described as a silent embarrassment after he was ordered to leave the floor of Ghanas Parliament. Citi News Parliamentary correspondent, Richard Sky, reported that the PNC scribe had walked into the main chamber and sat comfortably with Jomoro legislator, Hon. Samia Yabah Nkrumah at the time of proceedings. The youthful PNC national executive was apparently in the House to watch the Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, read the National Budget and Governments Economic Policy Statement for 2012. Apart from the Vice President and Ministers of State, the 1992 Constitution and the rules of the House forbid non-members from sitting in the Chamber, especially during proceedings, our correspondent said. Our correspondent said Adansi Asokwa MP, Hon. K. T Hammond, was preparing to formally draw the attention of the Speaker to the matter of Mr. Mornahs breach of the rules when the Marshall on duty walked to the PNC general secretary near Samias seat and showed him the exit. Samia, the only daughter of Ghanas first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is the current chairperson of the Convention Peoples Party. At the time of filing this report, it was not clear what the two - whose parties are facing growing dissent over apparent delays in organising congresses to elect presidential candidates for next years polls - were discussing. It is not clear from where Mornah observed the rest of the proceedings. Mornah, who is seeking re-election as PNC General Secretary, has publicly announced he will contest the Wa Central Constituency seat on the ticket of the PNC next year. The seat is currently occupied by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo.
