Man Burnt To Ashes

A 37-year old man, Ekow Nkrumah, was over the weekend burnt to ashes in his room at New Ebu in the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region. The remains of Nkrumah have since been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital for autopsy. Briefing Daily Guide yesterday, the AAK district Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum-Barimah, said the incident happened around 2 am when the victim was fast asleep. According to him, the assemblyman of the area, Kweku Daniels, called to inform him that Nkrumah had been burnt to ashes in his room. The District Police Commander stated that he assigned some officers to the scene and upon their arrival, they saw the charred remains of Nkrumah and took it to the morgue. DSP Twum Barimah said when the police went to the scene, the remains of the body was on the bed. He stated that the cause of the fire was not yet known but suspected that the victim might have lit a candle, leading to the fire outbreak while he was asleep. He disclosed that the neighbours were not able to detect the fire to rescue him because his house was isolated from the other apartments. DSP Twum Barimah has therefore cautioned persons who sometimes used candles to be careful and always put them out before they slept to avoid any unforeseen occurrence.
