72 Sheep....Fine Imposed On Okyehene's Accuser

Odehye Kwame Boateng, the man who accused the Okyehene, Amoatia Ofori Panyin II, of being behind some illegal mining in the Akyem state has been slapped with a fine of 72 sheeps and 36 crates of schnapps. The Okyeman Council sanctioned the royal after an emergency meeting held on Friday. Odehye Boateng was summoned on Wednesday to attend the meeting but failed to turn up for which reason he was fined. He has been given a one week ultimatum to pay the fine or would be banished from Okyeman with no one expected to socialise with him, attend his funeral and would not be allowed to be buried in the traditional area. Some members of the Asona Royal Family led by Odehye Boateng last week accused the Okyehene of consenting to some illegal mining activities being carried out behind one of his royal houses. The Okyehemaa, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokuaa in a statement on Thursday, condemned the action by a few of their relatives and described as unfortunate the accusation against the respected Okyehene. Odehye Boateng was supposed to attend the meeting today to give evidence of his side of the story but Abusuapanin Kwasi Gyekye who represented him at the meeting said Boateng failed to attend the meeting because he feared for his life.
