UPDATE: Gory...Bodies Torn Apart In Fatal Accident

The number of people reported to have died in the fatal car accident on the Tamale-Bolgatanga Highway on Saturday morning, is reported to be have risen to 26. According to Kwabena Ntow of FillaFM in Tamale, an affiliate station of Peace FM, the accident was a head on collision between a Metro Mass Transit Bus and a 207 Benz Bus. The 207 Benz bus was travelling from Kumasi to Bolgatanga whiles the Metro-Mass Transit bus was Tamale-bound. He reports, quoting eyewitnesses account that the driver of the Benz bus with registration AS 7510 S, at Pong-Tamale, near Savelugu, tried to overtake another vehicle, veered into the lane of the on-rushing MMT Bus and run headlong into it. All passengers on-board the Benz bus including the driver, are said to have died on the spot. So far, 26 people are reported dead including 4 children, 18 men and 4 women. Some of the victims have been sent to the Tamale Regional hospital and the dead bodies have been deposited at the Tamale government hospital. Meanwhile, the Upper East regional correspondent of the Enquirer Newspaper Samuel Abane was one of the victims of the car crash near Savelugu this morning. His body was identified at the Tamale Teaching Hospital by his media colleagues who went round with the Tamale mayor, Alhaji Haruna Friday to assess the extent of casualties. Abane previously worked with The Chronicle newspaper before he joined The Enquirer.
