Anas Aremeyaw Anas, a journalist working with the New Crusading Guide, has been nominated for the Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism 2011, according to the list of nominees released by the European Commission on Wednesday. A statement released by the Delegation of the European Union to Ghana in Accra said Anas was known for his investigative pieces and had won several awards in investigative journalism both in Ghana and outside Ghana. It noted that this was not the first time he has been nominated for the Lorenzo awards. The Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism recognises Europe�s conviction that freedom of expression, democracy, human rights and development are inextricably linked. �In too many parts of the world press freedom is still undermined or violated. Indeed, every day, thousands of reporters put their lives in danger to report on conflicts, humanitarian disasters or simply to tell human stories that are often taken for granted. �Through this Prize, the European Commission aims to recognise and reward journalists reporting in often challenging circumstances, celebrating the ways in which journalism can be a seed of positive change, the inspiration for development, and the engine for democracy and human rights.� The statement said entries were received from more than 1,300 journalists with strong competition in all Prize categories.
