Aliu Mahama Warns NPP Lobbyists

The former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from stampeding the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo into choosing their preferred choice as a running mate. The debate over a running mate to partner Nana Addo for the 2012 general elections has been on the rise in recent times with many names coming up for consideration. They include 2008 running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Lepowura Alhaji M. N. D Jawula, the Deputy Minority Leader Ambrose Derry, and Deputy MD of Metro TV, Alhaji Haruna Alhassan. Speaking to Citi News, Alhaji Mahama said the flagbearer should be left alone to choose a running mate in consultation with the elders of the party. I was nominated about one month to the elections that is when President Kufuor invited me to join him, he said. We were just about filing for nominations at the Electoral Commission. He added: It is not late and by next year he should be well prepared to settle on the right person. Nana [Addo] has the sole right to choose who he wants and that should not bother anybody, we should just give him the time.
