'Government Will Not Renege On Its Promises'

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Mike Hammah, has assured Ghanaians that the Government would not renege on its campaign promises. He said the government would surely deliver on the promises before its term of office elapsed. Addressing a durbar at Ekumfi Narkwa to mark the annual Ayerye Festival of the people of the town, Mr Hammah said as Rome was not built in a day, with patience Ghanaians would be seeing the promises delivered one after the other. Ghanaians must exercise patience to enjoy the fruit of the Better Ghana Agenda the government has promised them, the Minister said. Mr Hammah said the government had realised that the country could not be developed without laying a sound infrastructure hence its attention on the provision of school blocks to replace schools under trees, provision of potable water to the communities to prevent water borne diseases, provide electricity to promote business and good roads to facilitate easy movement of goods and people. He urged Ghanaians and donor partners to support the government in its effort to provide quality education for the Ghanaian children. The Minister advised parents to reciprocate the Governments gesture by enrolling their children in schools and supporting them till graduation. He expressed concern about the get-rich-quick syndrome which had engulfed the youth and appealed to parents to be inquisitive about the lifestyles of their children and how they come by sudden riches. Mr Hammah urged investors to support the communities they had invested in to develop by fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities. Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) said carving the Ekumfi District out of the Mfantseman Municipality would facilitate the development of the area. He commended the government for setting aside some money to be used as seed money for the new Districts. The MCE called on the people of Ekumfi to work hard to accelerate the development of the District. Nana Idan VI, Narkwahen, appealed to the Assembly to provide the town with a community centre and appealed to the government to subsidise the cost of outboard motors to make them affordable to fishermen. He commended investors in salt winning in the town of their support and cooperation. Mr Kwamena Nkrumah, Mfantseman East NDC Chairman, urged the youth to disabuse their minds of the misconception that festivals were part of idol worship and should rather participate in them. Mr Arthur Huberts, Chief executive of Interplast Limited, an investor in hospitality industry, donated jerseys, boots and footballs worth GH₵4,000.00 to two teams in the town.
