The Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has rubbished reports that the caucus has suggested to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, to choose deputy Minority Leader, Ambrose Dery, as his running mate.
Hon Mensah-Bonsu, however, admitted the minority caucus has had some discussions on the running mate issue that has occupied some NPP leading members for some time now.
In an interview with Citi News, Hon. Mensah-Bonsu indicated that Nana Addo should be given the space to decide, but he would have wished that whoever is chosen should be from the North of Ghana and should be capable of bringing votes to the NPP ticket. He indicated that �the caucus has not considered as a group who to partner Nana Addo. �
Hon. Mensah-Bonsu added: �Personally, I don�t believe in two Akans on the same ticket, I don�t believe in that so I agree with Nana that for the time being, we should continue tying our flag on the mast of the North. We have three contestants from the North and in my own assessment, I think all three of them qualify.
�Beyond that we are looking at complimentarities, who amongst the lot can the party trust in the absence of the flagbearer. But above all, because we are not in government, the battle is going to be stronger than it was in 2008. �
