Miss Excel Plus Sues XL Productions Company

Miss Gloria Kafui Amegah, the Miss eXcel Plus 2010, has instituted a court action at the Accra High Court, against XL Productions Company to release to her the KIA Picanto Saloon Car which she won as her prize in the 2010 beauty contest. She is further praying the court to compel the company to pay for her two-week trip to Dubai, and general damages of GH25,000, for breach of contract. Miss Amegah is also praying the court to place a perpetual injunction restraining XL Productions Company from organizing the grand finale of this years Miss eXcel Plus Pageant Contest. Joined to the suit is Mrs Louisa Boakye, Chief Executive Officer of XL Productions Company. Miss Amegah avers that sometime last year, XL Productions Company organized the beauty pageant styled Miss eXcel Plus and that at the end of the Contest, she emerged the winner and was accordingly crowned Miss eXcel Plus 2010. She said the company agreed with the contestants that the winner of the pageant would receive as her prize the following: a brand new KIA Picanto Saloon car; a cash prize of GH25,000, a two-week trip to Dubai, a one-year hair and make-up with Second Image; one-year gymnastic exercise at Pipps f; and one-year clothing with Vidols Sleek wear, among others. Miss Amegah said it is only the cash prize which was given to her in September this year, in addition to the one-year hair and make-up; one-year gymnasium and one-year clothing and that the Company had failed to comply with the terms of the agreement, in spite of persistent demands. She is of the view that it is unjust and morally unacceptable for the winner of the Beauty Contest for last year to be deprived of her prize, while the company wants to award this years winner.
