Nana Addo Running Mate Schemers Asked To Exercise Restraint

The Upper West Platform, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Muslim youth group in the Upper West Region, says it is not happy with the way some elders, youth groups and Members of Parliament in the party are conducting themselves in the debate over the choice of a running mate for the party. The group claimed that though the ground was fertile for the NPP to return to power, such schemers should exercise restraint and give Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the chance to choose his running mate at the right time. The group said this in a statement signed by Abdullah Mohammed, Regional Communications Director of the group, in Wa on Thursday. The statement said Nana Akufo-Addo, an experienced politician with a solid track record, should be allowed the space to decide who his running mate should be without any pressure. The statement said NPP was the only party in Ghana that had recognized the importance of northerners and Muslims in Ghana and the party demonstrated this by going in for a northern Muslim running mate in the past. The group said what the lobbyist should have been suggesting to the presidential candidate was that he should this time look beyond Northern Region and search around Upper West and Upper East regions. It said there were many qualified personalities in the Upper West Region who could partner Nana Akufo-Addo to victory for the party in 2012. The group suggested to the lobbyist to rather channel their energies and resources to campaigning in their constituencies to enable the party to win more parliamentary seats
