Man Attempts To Buy Blood From Mortuary

A 47 year-old man who with sheer bravado walked to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in search of blood from dead bodies for supply to an unnamed pastor at Konongo, is in trouble with the law. Divine Agyei, a resident of Asante Akim Wiawso in the Ashanti Region, who claimed to be suffering from an ailment that looked like tetanus, alleged that the pastor promised to cure him if he was able to get him human blood from a deceased minor. He could not achieve his mission, and had been picked up by the police in Kumasi for investigations. The incident was the second at the hospital this year. In the first case, a man claiming to be an agent of a pastor also went to the mortuary in search of human blood. He was consequently arrested. In the latest case, which happened Wednesday, Agyei was said to have told a security man at KATH that the pastor who sent him needed the blood for the preparation of a concoction whose potency was enough to cure him of the five-year-old ailment. A source at the Kumasi Central Police, who confirmed in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said the matter was being investigated. Police would, however, not give further details, not even the charge to be proffered against the suspect. A source at the hospital, however, told the Daily Graphic that Agyei allegedly approached a security man at KATH and enquired from him whether he could assist him to purchase blood from deceased persons from the mortuary. The security man feigned interest and asked him how much he would charge for the blood. As they went into a bargain, Agyei decided to offer GH�7 but the hospital security rejected it. They then settled on GH�10 and Agyei quickly came out with the amount in an envelope. As he handed the envelope to the hospital security, Agyei wondered why he charged that low amount when a fanta bottle of the human blood from the mortuary could fetch about GH�60. Determined to probe further, the security man asked Agyei how he was going to preserve the blood. In his answer, the suspect said he said would put it in a refrigerator to preserve and that it could remain in it for one year without getting spoilt. It was at that juncture that the hospital security arrested and handed him over to the police.
