Produce Nana Akuffo Addos Accuser Dead or Alive

THE PARAMOUNT CHIEF of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Borisa I, has issued an ultimatum to the parents of the young man who accused New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo of urinating on a mosque, to bring him to the palace or face his wrath. The young man, believed to be a student of the Tamale Polytechnic, accused the NPP leader of defiling a mosque by urinating on its walls during his listening tour of the Northern Region. He was alleged to have absconded from Damongo after the accusation which gained a lot of steam in some pro-NDC media houses, paving the way for some political opponents of the NPP leader to cast aspersions at him. The paramount chief, whom the flagbearer visited, took offence in the matter, as it also gave room for people in the country to believe he had no urinal at the palace. Against this background, he gave the parents of Nanas accuser up to the close of Tuesday December 20, 2011 to produce him dead or alive or face the full rigours of the laws of the traditional council. This latest twist followed the outburst of angry NPP youth who wanted the traditional council to indicate its stance on the matter to restore the dignity of Nana Addo. Last Friday, the NPP Regional Secretary, Dr. Clifford Braimah, in a follow up to the partys demand, led hundreds of youth from the Damongo township to the Yagbonwuras palace to register their protest on the silence of the Traditional Council. According to them, the accusation that the flagbearer urinated at a mosque near the Yagbonwuras palace when he paid a courtesy call on the chief was baseless; and part of the vile propaganda by Nana Addos detractors to tarnish his reputation. The Yagbonwura, who was concerned about the large number of youth that trooped to the palace, requested that next time, some selected leaders should rather be sent. But the youth indicated to him that the march was to register their anger on what a member of the NDC propaganda team falsely reported in the media. The youth warned that if the Yagbonwura failed to bring the boy to order, the NPP youth would not hesitate to embarrass President Mills, who is also a flagbearer, and his Vice John Dramani Mahama, anytime they were in Damongo. According to them, the NPP formed the majority of the Damongo township, and therefore the minority, for political gain, should not indulge in image smearing tactics in order to gain grounds. They accused the Vice President of not recognizing the authority of the Yagbonwura, citing certain comments he made in Buipe during his recent visit where he said Buipe and Kusawgu traditional areas did not have chiefs. On his part, the Yagbonwura asked for calm, stressing that he had issued an ultimatum to Abubakar Rufai, father of the young man who started the rumour, so he would be brought to the palace before the stipulated date. Meanwhile, investigations conducted by Daily Guide have revealed the said mosque is still under construction and has two urinals. Workers at the site told Daily Guide that at the time Nana Addo arrived at the palace, what was reported by NDC papers never happened and wondered why the ruling partys propagandists were peddling such falsehood. Some of the youth called for investigations into how the young man got admission into Tamale Polytechnic to pursue an HND programme in Accountancy, indicating that they had ample evidence he had no SHS grades to pursue that course. They threatened to petition the polytechnic to investigate his results as they suspected they could have been forged.
