Mills' 'Action Year' Is An "Unfortunate Deception"

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) says the NDC governments insistence that the year 2011 was indeed an Action Year is an unfortunate deception. The partys Communications Director, Nii Armah Akomfrah in an interview with Citi News said the NDC government is deceiving Ghanaians and must rather refocus on performing instead of praising itself. The Minister of Information, John Tia Akologo at the Meet-the-Press series in Accra on Tuesday, catalogued a number of achievements chalked by the NDC government adding that the NDC government has kept its promise of delivering the Better Ghana Agenda. The Mills administration also described the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy, as one of the major achievements in the 2011 Action Year declared by the President at the beginning of the year. According to the Information Minister, 97% of Public sector workers captured under the scheme have so far been migrated onto the new pay policy. The remaining three percent, he said, is expected to complete the migration in a few weeks. Touching on other major achievements of the government, Mr. Tia-Akologu said governments job creation efforts have borne major fruit, while the current macroeconomic climate is the most stable in the history of Ghana. However, speaking to Citi News Mr. Armah Akomfrah said there is nothing to show that government has really performed and in the process improved the lot of Ghanaians. We have a long way to go; there is a big gap between our goals and our development. Where is the improvement that we can point to and the government keeps pointing to statistics as a sign of improvement. We are pointing to the reality on the ground; I wouldnt think that 2011 has been an action year.
