The government of Ghana has provided Gh�10,000 to the Winneba Government Hospital to cover the medical bills of the 32 injured persons on admission after a water tanker rammed into them on Tuesday night.
A 2000-litre water tanker drove into over 59 merry makers at Senya Breku in the Central region when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a possible mechanical failure.
The Vice President, John Mahama, who visited the accident scene on Wednesday and met with the elders of the town, announced that the government has directed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to offer any assistance they need prior to the burial of the 27 who gave up the ghost.
Majority of the dead were between the ages of 13 to 16. A pregnant woman and a one-year-old child were among those who lost their lives.
The Tufuhene for Ewutu-Senya, Neenyi Bentum IV, has appealed to the government to provide them with coffins so they conduct a mass burial on Thursday or Friday.
Meanwhile, the Winneba District Police Commander in charge of motor traffic, ASP John Paul Akonde, said the identification process of the dead bodies is underway and progressing steadily.
