Yammin And Wife In Accident

THE ASHANTI Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yammin, nearly missed seeing 2012 as his car got involved in a fatal accident on New Years Eve. A SEAT car, at IPT near Asuoyeboa, crashed head-on into the Nissan pickup on which the NDC scribe and his wife, Mary, were travelling. They were on their way to a watch night service to usher in the New Year The impact of the crash was so severe that it caused extensive damage to both cars and injuries to the persons on board both cars including the wife of Yammin. Though Yammin suffered minor head and leg injuries, his wife, who was seated at the front of the Nissan pickup registered GT 2250-11, suffered severe injuries on her forehead. The occupant of the SEAT with registration number AS 2648-09, who was believed to be intoxicated during the time of the crash, suffered serious injuries all over his body. The injured persons, including Yammin, were immediately rushed to the Kwadaso Government Hospital by Good Samaritans but were discharged the same day. Grace Ofori, an eyewitness, said Yammins car was descending a hill at IPT whilst the SEAT car which was being driven at top speed was climbing the hill. According to her, the driver of the SEAT who was alleged to be heavily intoxicated, lost control of the steering wheel, veered from his lane and crashed head-on into Yammins car, which was then parked. Grace said the impact of the crash was so severe that it drew a sizeable crowd who were on their way to watch night services, to the scene. She said initially, the driver in charge of the SEAT car looked weak, causing them to suspect he might die but luckily, immediate medical attention given to him at the Kwadaso Government Hospital saved his life. Recounting the accident to DAILY GUIDE, Yammin, who looked astounded, noted that whilst descending the hill, he saw the driver of the SEAT car, moving from one end of the road to the other. He said he became suspicious and afraid so in order to prevent a gory accident from occurring, he decided to stop his car on the shoulder of the road. Yammin said minutes after he had parked his car, the SEAT, at top speed, crashed into his vehicle and as a result his wife hit her forehead against the windscreen. The NDC scribe said initially he and he wife became dazed and were locked up in the car until some Good Samaritans came to their aid by ferrying them and the other driver to the hospital. Yammin is the most influential and respected NDC official in the Ashanti region who would be heavily relied upon by the NDC in the upcoming polls. The 31st December accident increased to two the number of vehicular accidents Yammin has been involved in within a spate of a little over two months, in Kumasi. In the first accident which occurred just in front of WAEC office near KTI in Kumasi about two months ago, Yammin was returning from an NDC function at KNUST when a car from nowhere zoomed into his vehicle at top speed. In that incident also, Yammin and the other person onboard the vehicle, Mohammed Uthman, another NDC strongman in Kumasi, both suffered minor body injuries.
