The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere and parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the general elections, Dan Botwe and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akuapem North, George Opare-Addo, who is also the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)�s parliamentary candidate for Okere have both made open pledges to conduct clean electioneering campaign devoid of insults and violence in the constituency. The two �combatants� made the pledge at a grand durbar to climax this year�s Odwira festival of the chiefs and people of Adukrom-Akuapem in the Akuapem North district on Saturday. The two politicians were applauded for their open show of commitment to maintaining peace in the Okere constituency and ensuring that peace becomes the bedrock for development in the area. The durbar was attended by some prominent citizens of Adukrom, the Eastern Regional Minister and the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo who was the special guest of honour. The MP, Dan Botwe appealed to chiefs, who wield great influence in the country, to constantly implore on all politicians to conduct clean campaigns, eschew violence and more importantly go by the laid-down procedure for free and fair elections. �As much as we make this pledge, we must make sure we go by the election rules from registration, voting and declaration of results in order not to endanger the peace we are all enjoying,� he said. DCE Opare-Addo also made similar pledge and said his campaign team will not do anything to disturb the peace of Okere. The chief of Adukrom, Osuodumgya Otutu Kono III had earlier on called on all politicians to refrain from insults and mudslinging in their campaign and conduct issue-based campaign. �Ghana is a peaceful country and we should not do anything to jeopardize the peace we are enjoying,� he said. The Local Government Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo assured that the NDC government will do everything possible to hold free and fair elections, stressing that the government will give all the logistical support to the Electoral Commission (EC) and ensure a level-playing field for the December 7 general elections.
