Woyome Inquiry: Osafo Maafo Swerves EOCO

A former Finance Minister under the Kufuor administration Yaw Osafo Maafo has filed a court injunction to immune him from appearing before the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO). Mr. Maafos name is one of the latest to pop up in the never-ending Woyome GhC58 million judgment debt saga among other NPP bigwigs. In an interview on an Accra-based radio station Joy FM, lawyer for Mr. Maafo, Godfred Odame, indicated that his client filed the injunction on Tuesday because he has issues with the process the entire investigation is taking, adding that the executive arm of government should not be the one to call for an investigation into the issue. He further indicated that due process must be followed to respect the rule of law which governs the country. A former Attorney General and current Education Minister Betty Mould-Iddrisu is expected to appear before the EOCO on Tuesday. A former Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2008 Nations Cup, Kofi Amoah, who is expected to appear before the EOCO on Wednesday is alleged to be considering filing a similar motion of injunction to prevent him from appearing before the investigative outfit.
