Armed Robbers Kill 2 At Fuel Station

About six armed robbers on Monday allegedly attacked the Sky Fuel Station at Awutu Papase Number One, near Bawjiase in the Central Region, killing a fuel attendant and a security man in the process. The two, whose names were given as Gifty, the fuel attendant, and Amidu Mohammed, the security man, were killed after they had told the robbers that they (the deceased) did not have money on them. The robbers, according to a police source, snatched a taxi cab, with registration number GW 3931-11, from its owner and used it for their operations. On reaching the filling station, the robbers demanded money from Gifty and Amidu, and when they told the robbers that they did not have any money, the robbers shot and killed them. The police have begun investigations into the case, pledging to arrest the perpetrators at all cost. Meanwhile, the Kasoa District Police Command has undertaken a swoop to arrest criminals in and around Kasoa. In the operation carried out yesterday, 50 suspected criminals, including two juveniles and a woman, were rounded up in the exercise. The Kasoa District Police Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer Asare, who confirmed this to the Daily Graphic, said the exercise was carried out in areas where Indian hemp was sold and criminal activities planned. The suspects, he said, would be screened and those found with exhibits would be processed for court. The exercise was carried out at Buduburam, Ofankor and the Kasoa High Tension areas. Superintendent Asare said the operation, which was supported by 80 personnel from the headquarters in Accra, followed the killing of two persons at the Sky Fuel Station at Awutu Papase Number One. He said the exercise would be sustained to rid Kasoa and its environs of criminal activities and appealed to people to volunteer information and co-operate with the police in their investigations.
