AGs 'Gargantuan Crimes' Allegation Alarms PNC

The Peoples National Convention (PNC) has said it is alarmed, terrified and surprised about the incredulous information contained in the press statement of the Attorney General which borders on potential crimes and attack on free speech and which jointly have adverse effect on Ghanas democracy. In a statement issued by the General Secretary, Bernard Mornah, the PNC said the AG could have done Ghana good if he had named the said minister who is involved in the cover up of 'gargantuan crimes' against the nation. Below is the PNCs full statement: First of all, as a party, we fail to join the seeming applause to the AG for his supposed boldness in issuing this statement. As a party, we find it highly regrettable and irresponsible that his statement falls short of naming, shaming and expediting actions that will prosecute the supposed Minister of State and accomplices so as to bring justice to the good people of Ghana. We are incompetent to comment on the merit of the said cases, but the Minister conceded in his press statement directed at his critics that he cannot condone gargantuan crime purported to have been committed against the state. This is said at a time when the people of Ghana need portable water, quality health care, access to quality education, social justice, employment opportunities, etc. Indeed, as a party, we wish to remind the AG that as the leader of the bar and a key member of the justice delivery system, telling the good people of Ghana about alleged crimes committed by NDC faithful, with a Minister of State being complicit is NOT enough. To the AG, we say, name the Minister, expedite actions to prosecute the persons and bring justice to Ghanaians. Anything short of this is a slap in the face of the NDC-led governments commitment to fighting corruption, promoting good governance and strengthening democracy. Again, we unequivocally condemn the confirmation of an already known truth of a rent-seeking culture in our media, that some sections of the press are NDC and also GULLIBLE and RENTED. Indeed, any well-meaning Ghanaian will condemn and potentially unsubscribe from the newspapers named by the AG and all other newspapers known to be political charlatans in disguise who have sold their conscience. Is this the best we can offer the majority of Ghanaians who are voiceless and have reposed their confidence in the media? Indeed, we do not suggest that all members in the media are guilty. It is refreshing to note that an appreciable number of our media fraternity continue to uphold the ethics and integrity of their noble profession. To such, please join the PNC and the good people of Ghana to weed out all manner of persons within the inky fraternity who are a THREAT to safeguarding and nourishing our democratic experiences as a nation. In the coming days, the PNC would watch with keen interest how government and the Attorney-General deal with the emerging and potentially cancerous issues from the Pandora Box his press statement has opened. Meanwhile, as a party, we would be evaluating what options are available to us in effectively representing the aspirations of the people of Ghana whose good senses have been awakened and if not injured by Hon. Martin Amidus statement. We shall return! !!! Signed Bernard A Mornah General Secretary
