Govt To Deal With Corrupt ECG Officials

The Ghana government has stated that it will punish any ECG official found culpable in a-yetto-be released video recording by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on the rot at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Anas of the New Crusading Guide newspaper is reported to have captured a-yetto-be released video recording that exposes some members of staff and contractors of the ECG in illegal deals. The investigations by Anas and the team from his Tiger Eye Investigations Company, also exposed about 354 private and state enterprises that had for various reasons failed to settle their electricity bills, totaling about Gh172 million as of November 2011. Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Electricity, Inusah Fuseini, said the revelation made by Anas on the rot in the ECG comes at a time when government is seeking to sanctify the institution. Anas project has come at a time that government is looking at ECG as an institution to review its technical and non-technical laws, he said. When the tape is made available to government, government will act on it to ensure that the ECG becomes relevant to the country. Meanwhile, a member of the Energy Commission Dr. Francis Dakora has told Citi News that the revelation by Anas is not surprising. He has therefore made a call on the Energy Commission to ensure that this canker is booted from the institution.
