Consult Us On Appointments - Volta Chiefs

Chiefs in the Volta Region have appealed to those who appoint people to political offices to consult them first, instead of springing surprises on them with such appointments. Togbe Afede XIV, President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs made the appeal on behalf of the Chiefs, at the first General meeting of the House, this year, in Ho. He said the way such appointments were made encouraged the officials to disregard the Chiefs and people of the Region. Togbe Afede said Members of Parliament and political appointees did not represent political parties but constituencies and so the people must have a stake in their appointments. Mr Dan Abodakpi, Ghanas High Commissioner to Malaysia, who was in the House at the head of a delegation of the National Democratic Congress, said there was the need to make the people feel consulted. He said there was no need for conflict of interest between the Chiefs and the NDC in development. Mr Abodakpi said "the name of the game is participation. Other political parties represented at the meeting were the New Patriotic Party, the Convention Peoples Party and the Progressive Peoples Movement.
