Upper East Youth Condemn Attacks On Martin Amidu

The Youth of Upper East Region on Monday condemned the recent attacks being levelled against Mr Martin Amidu, the Attorney General(AG) by a section of the society especially some members of the National Democratic Congress(NDC). In a release to the GNA at Bolgatanga, signed by Ibrahim Yakubu, Mathew Abgon and Danis Achulika, the Youth Group described the AG as a man of integrity who had served the legal service for over decades and had made a remarkable impact which could not be undermined. According to the group, they believed that the statement issued by the AG that he would deal with corrupt people irrespective of party inclinations had sparked the attacks. The youth stated that a man of Mr Amidu' calibre would not spare any corrupt person in the NDC although he belonged to that party, and stressed that it was better to "clean your house first before tackling those outside . They indicated that President Mills did not appoint Mr Amidu as the AG for nothing and that it was based on his experience and competence that he was appointed as the AG and should be given the fullest support to execute his duties. The Youth advised members of the NDC who had been attacking the AG and calling for his removal to desist from that and warned that they should bear in mind that the Upper East where Mr Amidu hailed from also formed a strong hold of the party. According to the youth it was Mr Amidu who led a task force of the NDC during the last election to persuade chiefs and people in the Region to vote for the NDC. It should be borne in mind that Mr Amidu wields much influence over the party in the Upper East Region, especially on the youth who form a chunk of the population in the area and any attempt to cause his removal from office will affect the chances of the party in the 2012 election, the youth cautioned.
