Concerned NDC Members Pledge Support For Woyome

A group calling itself Concerned Members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday pledged their support to Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome, an NDC financier. In addition, they called on the Government to arrest and compel officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government connected with the Woyome Scandal to assist investigations at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). The group made the pledge at a press conference in Accra. Hajia Sherifatu Sule, Spokesperson for the group, threatened that if the officials of NPP failed to cooperate with EOCO by Friday, January 20, they would embark on a massive demonstration. Indeed, if their cooperation is not secured by Friday, January 20, we shall mobilise all the progressive groups in Ghana to embark on a massive demonstration to drive home our message, Hajia Sherifatu stated. She said the group appreciated efforts by the Attorney General, Mr Martin A. B.K. Amidu in his Passionate fault finding mission to nail his fellow NDC colleagues with the hope of pleasing the NPP. However, he must be careful not to try and clean the mess of the NPP and smear it on his fellow NDC members. The group called on Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Flagbearer of the NPP to resign and submit himself to EOCO, because Nana Akufo Addo, Former President John Agyekum Kuffour, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah and the entire Cabinet of 2005-2006, must account for their Reckless and irresponsible decisions while in government, which has led to the loss of over GHc100 million paid to individuals as judgment debts. Mr Robert Kpeteme, Secretary of the group, described calls by Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Chairman of NPP, directing members of the party not to cooperate in the investigations by EOCO as criminal. We find the actions of Mr Obetsebi Lamptey to be criminal, and anybody who protects criminals or stands in the way of lawful investigations is a criminal, and must be prosecuted. Mr Kpeteme said Mr Woyome was a major architect in making the Sogakope, Begoro and Gushegu Government Hospitals a reality. Therefore, Vile media propaganda such as being launched since the inception of the judgment debt debate has the tendency to discourage investors. He called for the immediate arrest of Mr Obetsebi Lamptey. Mr Martin Amidu, last Monday filed a writ at the Commercial Court to compel Mr Woyome to refund the GHc58 million judgment debt paid to him. The Attorney General was also seeking clarification from Mr Woyome to prove he had a contract with the Government of Ghana. The motion said Mr Woyome had no contract with the Government of Ghana, because it was not approved by Parliament. Mr Woyome has justified his right to the judgment debt received in 2010, for illegal termination of a contract awarded to him for stadium renovation, towards Ghanas hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations. The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, February 14, 2012.
