Workers Early Pay - NDC Should Stop The Cheap Propaganda

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the decision by the Mills administration to pay public workers early in January as fruitless. As part of measures to assuage the economic hardship inflicted on the people as a result of the hike in fuel prices, the government announced plans to pay the salaries of public workers by January 16. According to the government, the move would ensure that people obtained enough monies in their pockets to meet their needs which include the payment of the fees of their wards. But the Communication Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, in an interview with Ashh Fm, a Kumasi-based radio station, observed that the move by the government was fruitless. He explained that the decision was unproductive, stressing that whether it pays workers early or at the end of the month - they would receive the same salaries. Nana Akomea, who is also the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi South, pointed out that if indeed the government was committed to improving the lot of workers, it would increase their salaries. Hon. Nana Akomea stressed that without a decent increment in the salaries of workers, the lot of workers could not be improved through the early payment of salaries. If you pay the salaries early on 16 and they finish spending the money by the ending of the month, are you going to pay them again on February 16th, the Okaikoi legislator queried. He noted that it was about time the Mills administration stopped the cheap propaganda and employ sound and effective measures to address the hardship facing the people currently.
