Ofosu Ampofo On Armed Robbery Menace

Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Saturday ordered the immediate transfer of Mr Odjorboah Nasiru from the Tema General Hospital to the 37 Military Hospital. Mr Nasiru was a security man on duty at the Tema Community Four branch of the UBA Bank and was shot in the leg in an armed robbery attack that took place at the bank on Friday. The order followed the Ministers visit to the Tema General Hospital where Mr Nasiru is on admission with two other victims following the gun shot wounds they received when the suspected armed robbers stormed the bank and took away an unspecified amount of money. The six suspected armed robbers using three motorbikes entered the bank premises on Friday afternoon killing one policeman on duty and injuring the three others who are on admission at the hospital. Mr Ofosu Ampofo told newsmen that public information was crucial to enable the police to bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous crime. He urged financial institutions to ensure that maximum security is provided on their premises to ensure the safety of both their staff and their valued customers. You should not make it easy for robbers to come to rob your banks, rather you should provide the necessary security in order to make it difficult for criminals to attack and steal from the banks, he said. The Mayor of Tema, Mr Robert Kemps Papa Nii Ofosuware who accompanied the Minister on the visit to the hospital, said the Tema Metro Assembly would hold an emergency meeting on Monday where top on the agenda would be a discussion bordering on the security in the metropolis.
