Why NDC And Government Communication Team Must Stop Commenting On Woyome's GH58 Million Judgement Debt

For the past three to four months, this country has been plunged with the controversial 58 million judgment debt awarded to Mr.Alfred Agbesi Woyome. Though there were several other judgment debts that could catch the eyes of Ghanaians such as the $65 million awarded to Ghana International Airline without acknowledgement of receipt of payments, political parties and civil society groups rather chose to focus on a singular payment. It is not surprising that this judgment debt to Mr. Woyome caught the attention of many Ghanaians since the amount involved is rather colossal. What I found intriguing and embarrassing is the fact that albeit this debt was a huge liability inherited from the erstwhile NPP regime it seems to have rather become an albatross on the throat of the government of the day. Instead of our communication team concentrating on educating Ghanaians about the genesis of this judgment debt, we are rather interrogating the matter politically and even at some point defending the benefactor. I think it is about time, we the communication team members for the party and the government restrain ourselves from submitting our views on this matter in the public. This is significant especially because, the key actors in this so-called Woyomegate scandal, the former NPP cabinet and Mr. Woyome have demonstrated that they are not ready to co-operate with Economic and Organized Crime (EOCO) to investigate the matter to a logical conclusion. It is therefore necessary for NDC communication team to restrain themselves from interrogating the matter on political platforms and programs. We should rather use the available limited time at our disposal to communicate to the Ghanaian populace projects and programs the government have put in place to better the life of the citizenry. We cannot continue to waste our time on radio and other political programs discussing issues about Woyome and the NPPs contract when there are several government initiatives we should be communicating to the people. Fellow communicators, let us leave the Woyomegate discussing to the NPP and its benefactor and rather concentrate on what we have done and what we are doing and see if the two key actors in this scandal will have any space in the media to comment on their so-called judgment miscalculations. After all, several judgment debts were paid to individuals and corporate entities since independence and the worse of it was recorded during NPPs eight years rule. We are in an election year and it will serve the interest of the NPP if this butter less debate will continue to derail our focus from telling the people of Ghana our achievements as a party in power over the last three years which invariably can lead to our electoral defeat in 2012. Anyone who is embitter about Woyomes judgment debt and NPPs role in this matter can go to court and contest the matter and leave the NDC government alone! A word they say is enough for the wise
