Police Invites Rival Buipe Chief For Questioning

The Northern Regional Police Command has invited a rival chief to the Jinapor gate, Chief Bawa Awushie Lebu Jebu II, to assist in investigations into the recent clashes at Buipe. This invitation now brings the number of invited persons for questioning to 13. Chief Bawa Awushie is expected to meet the police Wednesday morning, Citi News can confirm. A spokesperson for the Lebu gate, Seidu Fatawu, confirmed the invitation to Citi News and gave the assurance that Chief Awushie will honour it. �Is true that the police have invited Chief Bawa Awushie Lebu II and he is ready to honour the invitation tomorrow morning at 10,� Fatawu said. �To be frank with you in the letter the meeting was supposed to be today [Tuesday] but the Regional Police Crime Officer called and said it had been postponed to tomorrow, Wednesday,� he disclosed. Meanwhile, residents of the Buipe Township have endorsed the ban on this year�s Damba festival. An opinion leader called Fati Seidu was glad that the festival had been banned to maintain law and order in Buipe and its environs. �The Damba festival is compulsory for everybody to celebrate it, but we had a letter from the District Security Committee that the festival had been banned by the security and we don�t see anything wrong with that,� she said.
