A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of Ghana (CYG) said to be sympathetic to the cause of Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom this morning clashed with members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Mallam end of the N1 Highway which is due for commissioning today. The two groups are at each other�s throat over who deserve credit for the construction of the highway. According to PeaceFM�s Yaw Obeng Manu, who is at the venue grounds, the CYG has picketed the place and is demanding that the Highway be named after the onetime Public Sector Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor government who engineered the process that led to the country accessing the $547 million part of which has been used to construct the road. Ghana signed the US Millennium Challenge Account Compact (MiDA) in 2006 under the leadership of President John Agyekum Kufuor and received $547 million from the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the USA for the poverty alleviation activities across the country. President John Evans Atta Mills is expected to be the guest of honor at the ceremony to mark the climax of the handing over and will cut the tape to formally declare the highway open to traffic. But even before the handing over ceremony is held and a befitting name given to the N-1 Highway, the CYG is up in arms with government for allegedly sidelining the one person instrumental in brokering the deal. What seems to have incensed the CYG is the fact that the ruling NDC has hoisted its party flags and posted �Better Ghana Agenda� banners all over the place, ostensibly to credit President Mills� administration for fulfilling his promise. Meanwhile, reports reaching peacefmonline.com say, two members of the CYG have been picked up by the security agencies and been sent to the Kaneshie Police station for reasons yet to be ascertained.
