Woman Sets House Ablaze To Deny Uncles Wife Access

The Techiman police have arrested a 45-year-old labourer of the Ghana Nuts Limited, Akosua Adormah, for allegedly setting ablaze a six-bedroom house belonging to her late uncle, to prevent the uncles family from using it. The six-bedroom house, valued at about GH300,000 belonged to the late Adormah Ameyaw Akumfi and his wife, Cecilia. It was completely burnt down, on January 23, 2012. Akosua allegedly took the action following the refusal of the children and the widow of her uncle, to allow her (Akosua) and her mother to occupy the house, to compensate them for the sacrifice her (Akosuas) mother made to enable Mr. Akumfi to be educated. Akosua who appeared before the Techiman Circuit Court last Wednesday charged with two counts of threat harm and one count of causing unlawful damage, pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The court, presided over Mr. Michael Ntumi, granted her a GH200,000 bail with three sureties and one to be justified. The case has been adjourned to April 11, 2012 to enable the police to refer the docket to the Attorney-General for advice. According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly called Mrs. Cecilia Ameyaw Akumfi a witch on October 22 last year and threatened her at the time Mr. Ameyaw was on admission at the hospital. She said: if my uncle dies, you are not to get near that house or live in that house. I will use all means to prevent you from sleeping in that house. During the funeral of the deceased, Akosua again threatened Mrs. Rebecca Abrafi Danquah, daughter of Mr. Akumfi in these words: You will cry and cry again, you will face a problem which is bigger than what has happened. And if I allow you to stay in the house, I will change my name or the building will burn. The prosecution noted that not too long after this threat, the house got burnt under mysterious circumstances and the family made a report the police leading to Akosuas arrest.
