Police Arrest Arsonist

The police last Friday arrested Bernard Owusu Acheampong, the alleged arsonist who set a room ablaze at Soko leading to the death of a mother and her two children. Bernard, also known as Amos Acheampong, was arrested around 9:00pm on Monday in the neighborhood where the incident occurred. The Dansoman, Divisional Commander, ACP Paul Awini, confirmed the arrest to The Finder and stated that the police was still on a look out for an accomplice who was at large. According to ACP Awini, the police caught Acheampong when they laid ambush in the area. A family source told The Finder that immediately Acheampong was arrested, a threatening message was sent to the mother of Rosemond Allotey, deceased. Acheampong and the younger brother of the deceased are said to be dating the same girl and Acheampong had threatened his rival with death on several occasions. It will be recalled that on Friday, March 2, a woman, Rosemond Allotey, and her two children, Charlotte and Emmanuella Quartey-Papafio, were asleep in their room when unknown arsonists poured petrol into their room through the window and set the room ablaze. The three, with severe burns, were rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where Rosemond died in the evening of the same day and her children died on Saturday afternoon. An inscription was left on the walls of the room by the arsonists warning the family of the deceased.
