Accra Drains, Western Rail Lines To Be Reconstructed As Mills Secures Loan

Government of Ghana has signed two Memorandum of Understanding with US companies for a comprehensive reconstruction of all Accra drains and rehabilitation of the western rail lines totaling more than 600 million dollars. 595 million dollars has been earmarked for the Accra drains and 200 million dollars for the western rail lines. Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Kwabena Duffuor and Deputy Minister of Transport Dzifa Ativor signed for Ghana, while the Managing Directors of Conti Engineering and General Electric initialed for their organizations. The signing took place Thursday night at a dinner in honour of President Mills by the Business Council for International Understanding, an umbrella body for American Businesses in Washington DC. The US Ambassador to Ghana, Donald Teitelbaum told his countrymen that apart from Ghana�s economy being the growing one in the world, the country also has the best democratic credentials in Africa. Mr Teitlebaum used the opportunity to explain President Barrack Obama�s policy of partnership for growth. The AMA Chief Executive, Alfred Vanderpuye told Radio Ghana�s Presidential Correspondent that all the necessary documentation will be fast tracked for Parliament to approve the loan for the projects to begin. He said this will also include the Korle Lagoon.
