Investigation by Critical Thinkers International (CTI) has revealed that from 2009 to date, it has been hell for people perceived as NPP at the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) especially at the Takoradi Harbour.
It has been nothing than constant intimidation and harassment of some of the Management Personnels perceived as NPP by the then NDC administration.
The oppression of such people led some to death, loss of employment and psychological and other health issues.
The intimidation ranged from;
i. Demotion to lower ranks
ii. A sit on ones promotion
iii. Pushing one under very poor and unfavorable working conditions
iv. Others
Two of such affected people perceived as NPP who suffered most under the NDC government are;
A. Mr Kodie
In 2008, he was the Accounts Manager at the Takoradi Harbour and his rank was CAT 4.
Due to him perceived as an NPP by the NDC, he was reduced to an Assistant Manager at the Purchasing Department formerly called the Stores Department.
Even though promotions at the Harbour comes by/through;
i. every four years
ii. when a higher position becomes vacant
iii. a spectacular achievement of an employee
Yet Mr Kordie was denied his promotion throughout the eight years rule of the NDC government despite him over qualifying for at least two.
B. Alhaji Sulemana
This is one man who also suffered hugely under the arms of this NDC Administration.
In 2008, he was a Chief Engineer at GPHA headquarters, Tema. He was with a rank of CAT 2, which is the second most senior rank after CAT 1. It is mostly people of CAT 2 who are the given the Director position of either the Tema or Takoradi Harbour while those of CAT 1 are mostly given the Director General position of the whole of the GPHA.
Because he was perceived as an NPP man by the NDC government, he was not only robbed of the Director position after it was given to some perceived NDC guys with lower ranks of CAT 3 and CAT 4 for the Tema and the Takoradi Harbours respectively, but also, he was reduced from his position at the GPHA headquarters to supervise an expansion project at the Takoradi Harbour under very poor and inhumane conditions.
While these two and the many other people perceived as NPP were pushed through such bad conditions, their counterparts perceived as NDC were given the positions of their colleagues after their demotion, all the juicy positions when they become vacant plus promotions without them even meriting them from both a certificate and a performance point of view.
There were many times some of these perceived NDC workers at the Harbour were even promoted more than three times in a year for no work done.
We will as a result plead with the new government to do a better investigation into this matter at the GPHA and through that help correct all these wrong at the Harbours especially at the Takoradi Harbour.
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority ( GPHA) is the national port Authority of Ghana responsible for the governance, maintenance and operation of the ports of Ghana, principally the Port of Sekondi-Takoradi, Port of Tema and the Fishing Harbour at
Tema. GPHA main offices are in Sekondi-Takoradi and Tema.
The Takoradi Harbour is in the Western region of Ghana. It is located in the industrial district of
Sekondi-Takoradi and is the oldest harbour in Ghana.
The port receives and exports high volumes of cargo. It handles about 65% of the total export with about 600 vessels visiting it. The main exports from the harbour are Cocoa, Bauxite, Manganese, and formerly Timber was part.
The harbour also serves the international trade purposes of land locked countries in the Sahel region of Africa like Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger (Wikipedia, GHPA)
Thank you
Hhhmm, may God be praised always
