Member of Parliament (MP) Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has petitioned Qatari ruling family, seeking clarification of its link with ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The move by the MP comes at the back of his belief that the investigative journalist impersonated the family in his investigative piece #No. 12 that sought to reveal corruption at the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Parts of the video came with a voice-over commentaries suggesting the Former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi received $65,000 from a person claiming to be a member of the Qatari Royal Family.
“We have petitioned Sheikh Al Thani in Dubai for them to tell us the kind of links they have with Anas, to me impersonated them…,” he said.
The Former FA Boss has since denied the allegation and has sued Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye PI for defamation.
About the Al Thani family
The Al-Thani family, a member of the Tamimi tribe, is the ruling family of Qatar.
The ruling family of Qatar, Al Thani, has been ruling the Arab Peninsula since before its independence from the British in 1971.
Unlike other Arab rulers, the family is neither a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad nor of long-standing tenure in their kingdom; rather, their rise to power was the result of British and Ottoman imperial politics. As their rise parallels the creation of an independent Qatar, the two entities are inextricably linked.
Today, members of the al-Thani family dominate key government ministries and receive a significant share of state revenue.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, a response from the Al Thani family will be paramount to determine if the supposed Sheikh in the #No. 12 documentary is indeed a member of the Qatar ruling family.
The Law Maker has been ‘fighting’ the investigative journalist since the premiering of his documentary #12 which sought to unearth corruption at the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Ken has since the premiering of the documentary sought to unmask the man who is revered for his documentaries that bring to light, hidden secrets.
The MP who believes Anas has been trapping people said he will go every length to unmask him.
He has also dragged the undercover journalist to the Ghana legal Council, claiming that Anas misconducted himself professionally as a lawyer in a manner that bordered on “moral turpitude.”

@Kojo B, I agree with you. this is not the time to take sides if you are not on the payroll of either Ken or Anas. we need to follow this issue with our minds and not our hearts. i pray to be alive to see how it will end.
If impersonation is not a crime or illegal then try one, when the law get you then you will see where power lies.
I think the govt of Ghana should make sure going forward, clear and concise method of uncover journalism is defined. No journalist should be allowed to initiate and participate in crime and use it against some people as them being corrupt. Our law of both giver and taker are culpable should be adhered to at all times irrespective of who's involved. Again, we should respect the law that says 'a person is not guilty until proven by law of competent jurisdiction';no one should be allowed to premier any video that accuse and judge people as corrupt even before they get opportunity to be heard in court.
Impersonation is not illegal when it has to be with investigation Mr Ken. Anas does not need a family in Qatar to help him unmask the extent of corruption at the GFA. He must go in the capacity of someone high to really know the nature of the former boss of the GFA. The Qatari family does not have any interest in GFA or Nyantakyi either. But Anas would have to use their name to really get to know what Nyantakyi does. Anas dominantly conduct his investigation at where there is a high level corruption activities in the country. In the case of GFA, it had rocketed to it terminal point and the coming of Anas to save issues was justifiable. Ken should never think he will succeed in bringing down Anas. Rather, i think he should help the team to work hard to bring corruption down. He should also behave himself well as an Honourable member of Parliament. We know the kind of person he is, very vulgar and sometimes defiant etc. I remember how he insulted Efia Schwa sometimes ago. And to me that is where he lost all his respect. Ken you will not succeed. Tiger Eye will grow as we keep on supporting them in prayers.
Interesting times ahead. The conclusions to this case will define both Anas and Ken as agents for the fight against corruption in this country, continent and the world at large. We should give Ken the benefit of the doubt and watch with keen interest and sharp eyes and ears. These are defining moments for a lot of people, politicians and journalist alike. Stay tuned!!!
